The annual Friendship Day rose giveaway is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 19, beginning at 8 a.m., as Greencastle Mayor Sue Murray (left) joins Eitel's Flowers owner Jenny Sullivan (right) in proclaiming Wednesday as Friendship Day locally. Representing the places (besides City Hall and Eitel's) where roses may be picked up that day are (standing, from left) Brad Johnson, Ivy Tech; Dominique Gibson, Teachers Credit Union; Michelle Collins, Asbury Towers; Amy Trusty and Brittany Cruse, PNC Bank; Natalie Pritchard, First National Bank; Jeff Flint, Bittles and Hurt/Hopkins-Rector funeral homes; Tammy Amor, Greater Greencastle Chamber of Commerce; and Cindy Mattox, University Lending. Not pictured, MetroNet Inc. Those organizations and businesses will have collectively 4,000 roses available. Citizens can receive a free dozen roses as long as they keep one and pass out the others to 11 different people in the name of friendship. Organizers ask that those picking up roses make a donation of canned goods or other non-perishable items to the Food Pantry. Collections boxes will be available at all the above locations.
