The Greencastle boys' cross country team competed at the Decatur Central Invite Saturday, coming away with a third place finish.

The team responded well after losing one of its top runners, Tyler Hudson, to an injury.

Elijah Brattain led the Tiger Cubs with a fifth place finish and a time of 17:10. Taylor Secrest followed closely after posting a time of 17:12, setting a person best by 32 seconds.

Jacob Lewis was third on the team, with Matt White running fourth and Levi Lewis running fifth for GHS. Levi Lewis' time of 18:48 was 48 seconds faster than his previous personal best.

Peyton Jones and Cory Jones rounded out the Greencastle runners.

In junior varsity action, Nathan Grezsiek ran a 20:22 and Ichiro Mozawa ran a 20:45, both personal bests for the runners. The biggest jump in time came from Justin Painter who cut 2:03 from his previous personal best to post a time of 21:50.

"I'm very proud of the steady progression of the boys, both in effort and their times," head coach Art Dwigans said. "We continue to drop our 1-5 times and beat our best times and that's very satisfying as a coach."

Greencastle will host the Tiger Cub Invite Saturday at the Putnam County Fairgrounds at 9 a.m.
