County Jail

Two people were booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* On Wednesday, Sept. 26 at 10:45 p.m. Michale Ryan Runnells was booked into the jail on warrants for theft and burglary.

* On Thursday, Sept. 27 at 1:40 a.m. Anthony Patrick Chandler, 43, Bainbridge, was arrested for battery and disorderly conduct disturbing the peace.

Sheriff's Department

* On Friday, Sept. 21 at 4:28 a.m. Anthony J. Kerr, 20, Greencastle, was eastbound on State Road 240 in a 1997 Nissan Maxima when he fell asleep.

Kerr's car left the south side of the road and entered a ditch. It then hit a power pole head on, causing the car to flip on the driver's side.

The care came to rest in the middle of State Road 240 facing south.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* On Tuesday, Sept. 25 at 10:40 a.m. Matthew S. Cliburn, 18, Greencastle, was driving southeast on County Road 275 East in a 2002 Pontiac Sunfire.

Cliburn said he met a red Dodge pickup driving northwest at a high rate of speed. The truck was left of center.

The driver said he swerved to avoid the truck but lost control on wet pavement. The car slid across both lanes and left the road on the east side.

The car spun around and the left front fender struck a highway warning sign, where it came to rest.

Damage was listed at $1,001-$2,500.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department went on several runs recently.

* On Thursday, Sept. 27 at 8 a.m. crews went to FB Distro to extinguish a small fire in the back of a minivan. They returned at 8:46 a.m.

At 10:55 a.m. they were dispatched to 303 S. Locust St. for an alarm that was set off during a drill. They were in service at 11:05 a.m.

At 11:59 a.m. firefighters went to Walmart on State Road 240 for a fluid cleanup that resulted from an auto accident. They were in station at 12:23 p.m.
