38th annual Berry Street Flea Market on tap for Saturday

Residents on Berry Street are busy preparing for their 38th annual Berry Street Flea Market to be held on Saturday, Oct. 6.

Visitors will find just about anything they can imagine as they roam Berry Street from Jackson Street east to Bloomington Street, as well as the north/south streets in between.

A wide variety of food and sweet goodies will be available for hearty appetites to enjoy, including the traditional bean soup and cornbread located on College Avenue, just a few feet south off Berry Street.

The beans and cornbread tradition was started with the Homer and Lucille Cook family at the first Berry Street Flea Market in 1975.

Thinking they had gone overboard by preparing 22 pounds of beans, they had decidedly underestimated their customer base when by 10 a.m. they were sold out.

If bean soup doesn't agree with you there will be plenty of other food choices to choose from throughout Berry Street.

Berry Street is located a mile south of the courthouse square in Greencastle. Port-o-lets will be placed on Warren Street (between Jackson and Indiana) and also in the parking lot on the east side of Berry Insurance office at the corner of Berry and Locusts.

The city has exempted the no-parking regulation on the south side of Berry Street for the day.
