BRAZIL -- State Reps. Jim Baird (R-Greencastle) and Bob Heaton (R-Terre Haute) will host an informational upcoming meeting on a proposal to designate a portion of State Road 59 as a highway memorial to Clay County native Orville Redenbacher.

The meeting, set for 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7 in Forest Park, will come during the 10th annual Clay County Popcorn Festival in Brazil.

Redenbacher was born at Brazil in Clay County on July 16, 1907. He attended Brazil High School, graduating with academic distinction. Redenbacher then attended Purdue University and graduated with a degree in agronomy in 1928.

Although Redenbacher died on Sept. 19, 1995, his legacy continues receiving international recognition for his award-winning popcorn brand that was voted the nation's best-selling popcorn in 2005.

Clay County Popcorn Festival President Evelyn Brown is also expected to be in attendance Oct. 7.
