City Police

A two-vehicle mishap on the west side of the courthouse square Thursday afternoon caused about a 30-minute traffic back-up but minimal damage to the two trucks involved, Greencastle City Police reported.

The accident occurred as a southbound 2011 Mack semi tractor-trailer, driven by Charles Paulson, 56, Richland Center, Wis., stopped for the traffic signal at Jackson and Washington streets.

Also southbound was a 1988 Ford dump truck, driven by Charles Lohrman, 53, Brazil, for Jerry Lewis Construction, Greencastle.

Lohrman told Officer Albert Epple that he did not realize the semi was stopping in traffic and ran into the rear of the trailer. The tractor-trailer is owned by the Wisconsin firm Your Town Transport.

Total damage was estimated at $2,500-$5,000.

The mishap tied up traffic on the square until a second dump truck arrived to tow the disabled vehicle from the scene.

The Greencastle Fire Department assisted with clean-up at the scene.

Three recent traffic citations were issued by city officers:

-- At 1 a.m. Friday, Bret Brumfield, 17, Cloverdale, was ticketed by Officer Nick Eastham for 51 mph in a 30-mph zone on Bloomington Street, south of Martinsville Street.
