County Jail

Three people were booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* On Thursday, Oct. 25 at 7:23 p.m. Jonathan Keith Thornton, 24, Roachdale, was arrested for battery on a child and domestic battery.

At 9:45 p.m. Josh Elijah Hoffa, 35, Clo-verdale, was charged with violation of home detention.

* On Friday, Oct. 26 at 4:22 a.m. Terry Dean Hayes, 27, Greencastle, was booked in for operating while intoxicated.

Sheriff's Department

* On Monday, Oct. 22 at 3:33 p.m. Megan L. Close, 21, Spencer, was southbound on Manhattan Road in a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am. As she went through a turn, the car began to slide on the wet road.

Close was unable to stop the slide and began to spin, crossing into the left lane and into the path of the northbound 2008 Ford Escape driven by Misty J. Sawyer, 39, Reelsville.

Sawyer said she saw Close lose control but was unable to avoid hitting the vehicle in the rear end.

Operation Life transported Sawyer to Putnam County Hospital for chest pain.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* On Thursday, Oct. 25 at 8:49 a.m. Hoaran Liang, 22, Terre Haute, was stopped southbound on U.S. 231 waiting to turn left onto the eastbound Interstate 70 entry ramp in a 2000 Buick LeSabre.

Liang said he noticed a stationary truck in the northbound passing lane and believed he could cut in front of it when the light turned green.

However, Jerry M. Pleake, 64, Cloverdale, was approaching in the northbound right lane in a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire. As Pleake crossed the intersection, Liang struck the left front corner of his vehicle.'

Liang was not cited for the accident.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

Fillmore Marshal

Two traffic citations were issued to a 26-year-old Fillmore man following a recent hit-and-run property-damage accident at 112 North St., Fillmore Marshal Darrel Bunten reported.

Cody Sims was ticketed at 7:14 p.m. Oct. 21 in the 100 block of North Street. He was cited for driving with a suspended license and for no financial responsibility (no insurance).

The hit-and-run mishap reportedly occurred on Oct. 17, and the driver, later identified as Sims, reportedly left the scene of the accident, Marshal Bunten noted.
