City Police

A 24-year-old Greencastle man was arrested early Thursday on a Putnam County warrant for cruelty to an animal, Greencastle City Police report.

Kenneth J. Collins was arrested at his 402 Howard St., Apt. C, residence at 4:33 a.m. Thursday by Officer Matt Huffman.

Collins was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

East Washington Street, near Stadium Drive, was the scene of a two-vehicle accident Wednesday afternoon in the traffic back-up following school dismissal at Greencastle High School.

Baylee Hanlon, 17, Greencastle, was westbound, driving a 1999 Dodge Ram pickup when traffic in front of him came to a halt, and he had to stop his truck.

Also westbound was a 2001 Honda Accord, driven by Joshua Painter, 20, Greencastle. Painter was unable to stop his car in time to avoid striking the rear of the Hanlon vehicle.

Total damage in the 3:28 p.m. mishap was estimated at $5,000-$10,000, according to Sgt. Terry Eastham's report.

Two traffic citations were issued recently by GPD Reserve Officer David Clodfelter.

-- At 12:30 a.m. Thursday, Skylar Parks, 25, Greencastle, was ticketed at Indianapolis Road and Fawnview Lane for 44 mph in a 30-mph zone.

-- At 8:59 p.m. Wednesday, Xin Huang, 47, Greencastle, was ticketed for 42 mph in a 30-mph zone at Indianapolis Road and Judson Drive.

Fillmore Marshal

A 26-year-old Fillmore man was arrested Wednesday night by Marshal Darrel Bunten and the Fillmore Police Department.

Cody S. Sims was arrested at 9:04 p.m. and lodged in the Putnam County Jail on a warrant resulting from charges of failure to stop after a traffic accident and public intoxication.

County Jail

Two people were booked into the Putnam County Jail on Wednesday, Oct. 30.

* At 10:45 p.m. Jeremy Hylton Barker, 30, Roachdale, was arrested for disorderly conduct, a traffic accident causing property damage and probation violation.

* At 11:50 p.m. Ralph Roger Kirton, 43, Poland, was lodged at the jail for operating while intoxicated.

Sheriff's Department

The Putnam County Sheriff's Department recently worked three accidents in which motorists struck deer.

* On Sunday, Oct. 28 at 6 a.m. Mary K. Thompson, 48, Greencastle, was eastbound on State Road 240 in a 2013 Ford Escape when she hit a deer.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

* On Sunday at 7:46 a.m. Laronda S. Johns, 25, Greencastle, was eastbound on County Road 50 North in a 2004 Saturn Vue when she struck a deer.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

* On Tuesday, Oct. 30 at 6:15 a.m. Janice Doane, 59, Reelsville, struck a deer with her 2007 Toyota Camry while eastbound on U.S. 40 at County Road 525 West.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department has been dispatched several times recently.

* On Saturday, Oct. 27 at 8:11 p.m. crews were sent to 208 E. Olive St. for an alarm. They were back at the station at 8:24 p.m.

* On Sunday, Oct. 28 at 12:15 a.m. firefighters went to 2102 Avenue D for an unauthorized burn. They returned at 12:19 a.m.

At 2:32 a.m. they were dispatched to 109 W. Hanna St. for an alarm. They were in service at 2:41 a.m.

At 1:10 p.m. crews were sent to assist Operation Life at 320 N. Madison St. They were back at 1:20 p.m.

* On Monday, Oct. 29 at 1:17 a.m. firefighters went to 306 N. CR 375 North to assist Clinton Township with a structure fire. They returned at 3:13 a.m.

* On Tuesday, Oct. 30 at 7:57 p.m. they were dispatched to 7 E. Larabee St. for a vehicle fire. They were in service at 8:37 a.m.

At 8:04 p.m. crews were sent to 6907 E. CR 100 South, but disregarded en route at 8:10 p.m.

* On Wednesday, Oct. 31 at 12:38 p.m. firefighters were asked to stand by for response to a fire at 2265 E. CR 800 South. They were disregarded at 12:44 p.m.

* On Thursday, Nov. 1 at 7:36 a.m. they were dispatched to clean up a leaking gas can at the corner of West Washington and Locust streets. They were in service at 7:45 a.m.
