Annual Spirit of Christmas decorating contest announced

Friday, November 2, 2012

The Greater Greencastle Chamber of Commerce will again sponsor the annual Spirit of Christmas Merchant Window Decorating Contest

That means it is time for local businesses to break out the tinsel, lights and ornaments and get creative for the holidays.

The Chamber is now accepting contestant entries for the 2012 Spirit of Christmas Award.

Since 1984 the award has been presented to a local business whose holiday decorations have best captured the "Spirit of Christmas".

The traveling plaque will be presented at the Civic League's Lights of Love Ceremony on Tuesday, Dec. 6 at the Putnam County Courthouse.

Competing businesses must have their entry forms in no later than 4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27 and their business windows must be decorated and ready for judging by 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28.

To be eligible for judging entries may be made by sending the entry form, which includes the business name, address, contact person and phone number, to the Chamber of Commerce, 16 S. Jackson St., or faxing it to 848-1015.

Businesses will be judged on the following criteria: Spirit of Christmas, originality, appropriateness for business, continuity of theme and preparation and effort.

The contest is open to any business in the Greencastle area and businesses do not have to be members of the Chamber to participate.

Persons may call the Chamber office at 653-4517 with any questions.
