Annual Holiday Home Tour set for Saturday

The 30th annual Holiday Home Tour, presented by Theta Chapter, Delta Theta Tau Sorority, will be on Saturday, Nov. 17 from 4-8 p.m.

Admission is only $5 per person and tickets are available at Eitel's Flowers and Gifts, Downtown Deli (formerly Treasures on the Square), Ambler Hill Florists, Almost Home and Old National Bank (downtown).

Featured on this year's tour are the home of David and Teresa Masten, 118 Northwood Blvd. (in the historic Northwood Addition); the downstairs apartment of the Zaring House at 9 E. Poplar St., which has been beautifully restored, furnished and decorated for the holidays by Tim and Kim Shinn; Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority, 507 S. Locust St.; the new Shuee's Furniture and Mattress store at 116 W. Franklin St.; Eitel's Flowers and Gifts at 17 S. Vine St.; and The Inn at DePauw, 2 W. Seminary St.

The two-story Dutch Colonial home of David and Teresa Masten has undergone some recent renovations and expansions. Built in 1924, the home now features solid cherry cabinets, granite countertops and hardwood flooring in the kitchen and expanded master bath but the high arched room entrances have been preserved.

The beauty of Early American antique furnishings and lovely pieces of art are enhanced by holiday decorations throughout the home.

The Zaring House, built in 1887, has recently undergone a massive renovation by Tim and Kim Shinn and now boasts several apartment units.

Come be amazed at the transformation of the downstairs portion into an inviting furnished guest home. The original built-in leaded glass china cabinets have been preserved along with an original buffet with hand carved panels.

Also built in 1924, Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority was the first house to be built by any DePauw women's group. The ritual written for the house's dedication was later adopted for national use by the sorority and the three-story brick house is now home to 65 women pursuing their degrees at DePauw University.

Underneath that bright red awning on West Franklin Street visitors will find the new Shuee's Furniture and Mattress store, decked out for the holidays and ready to serve their furniture needs.

Eitel's Flowers and Gifts will be celebrating its 104th Christmas season with our community and has been at its present location since 1945. Jenny Sullivan and her staff will be offering a peek behind the counter as they show guests the back rooms of the store along with the beautiful showroom.

They will also offer samples from their Sweet Wishes Gourmet line and hot cider.

The Inn at DePauw is bringing back the tradition of the gingerbread house. Visitors will also be able to tour the Presidential Suite and relax amid the holiday décor of the lobby and enjoy complimentary cookies, punch and coffee.

Holiday wreaths, locally made and donated to Delta Theta Tau, will be on display and raffle tickets will be available.

Drawings will be at the end of the tour and you need not be present to win. You may also purchase homemade turtles to satisfy your sweet cravings or for a holiday gift. A few Delt cheeseballs are still available through Eitel's.

Proceeds from the Holiday Home Tour are used exclusively to support the Delta Theta Tau Scholarship Fund and philanthropy donations to Putnam County programs such as The Giving Tree, Mary Allison Children's Trust, Summer Enrichment Program, Johnson-Nichols Health Clinic and the Reality Store.
