Sheriff's Department

* A Stilesville man was arrested early Tuesday morning following an alcohol-related accident in Washington Township.

At 2:36 a.m. Deputy Phillip Troyer was dispatched to the residence at 5643 W. CR 525 South. The driver, 45-year-old William J. Clements, said he had been in an altercation at another residence and had fled the scene.

Clements told dispatch he did a "donut" and hit a culver, flattening one of his tires.

Investigation revealed the incident at the other residence had been a struggle over Clements' keys when he decided to leave. The parties were separated and a tow truck was dispatched to take the driver and his truck home.

However, the tow truck driver contacted dispatch saying that Clements became upset, got into the vehicle and drove off.

A few minutes later, the tow truck driver called dispatch indicating the driver had wrecked the 2008 Chevrolet Silverado into a tree on the bank of a pond, approximately one mile from the original location.

Clements had fled the scene by the time Troyer arrived, but was located near the residence of the original altercation. He was arrested for operating while intoxicated and leaving the scene of a property damage accident.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

* On Tuesday at 4:56 a.m. Kaytlin P. Flatt, 21, Avon, was eastbound on State Road 42 in a 1994 Chevrolet Lumina when an accident occurred as she passed another vehicle.

Flatt said she tried to pass a slow moving vehicle. As she attempted to pass, the other vehicle sped up, causing her to also increase her speed.

As the two vehicles approached a curve, Flatt braked, causing her to lose control. Her car left the east side of the road and went 30 yards down an embankment, coming to rest on the driver's side.

Flatt was taken to Putnam County Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.
