Carl E. Crews, age 88, of Greencastle, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012 in The Waters of Greencastle Nursing Facility.

Born Oct. 9, 1924 in Coatesville, he was the first-born son of six children to Delia (Phillips) Crews and Charles Crews.

Carl attended the Amo School. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Peace Time Draft and the Korean War.

He was married to Freda Mae (Cunningham) Crews for 56 years.

He retired from Cash Concrete after 31 years and was a member of the Greencastle Christian Church.

His hobbies included fishing, gadgets, watch repair and flying model airplanes.

He was preceded by his parents and a son, Curtis Ray Crews.

Survivors include his wife, Freda Crews, his brothers, Paul Crews, Lafayette, Colo., and Tom Crews, Silver Springs, Md.; three sisters, Rosemary Irelan, Huntsville, Ala., Ruth Butler, Indianapolis, and Rachel Bettag, Knightstown; a daughter, Karla Coll and husband Ken, Holly, Mich.; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Crews, Indianapolis; and his only grandchild, Alex Kyle Crews, Indianapolis.

The family will receive family and friends from 3-7 p.m. Friday at the Bousley-Hays Funeral Home in Coatesville, and also Saturday from noon to 1 p.m. in the Greencastle Christian Church.

Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. in the church with Rev. Mark Miller and Dr. Dan Cash officiating. Burial will follow in the Coatesville Cemetery.
