PUTNAMVILLLE -- A food delivery truck, transporting eggs and vegetables across Interstate 70 bound for Terre Haute, was found in violation of Board of Health regulations Thursday morning, Indiana State Police at Putnamville reported.

Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer Master Trooper Kent Winstead reported stopping a white Mitsubishi refrigerated food delivery vehicle for a routine inspection about 10:45 a.m.Thursday. He made the stop as the rig traveled the westbound lanes of I-70 into eastern Clay County near the 23-mile marker.

During routine inspection of the cargo area, approximately 40 dozen eggs were found to have tumbled onto the floor of the truck, where they had broken open and deposited a large amount of liquid egg yolk.

Enveloped in the yolk were approximately five pounds of mushrooms and 10 pounds of broccoli, which had also fallen and separated from their box containers.

The driver, Dong Xie, 40, Fontana, Calif., was cited by Trooper Winstead for a Class A infraction of transporting food not in compliance with Indiana Health Department rules.

The load was bound for Asian-style restaurants in Terre Haute, police said. The delivery company was listed as Eternal Trading Corp., Cincinnati.

The five pounds of mushrooms and 10 pounds of broccoli were seized by Clay County Health Department investigator Jane Stark and destroyed.

The remainder of the meat and vegetable load was determined not in violation and was not seized, Indiana State Police officials noted.
