District 44 State Rep. Jim Baird (R-Greencastle) has received his committee assignments for his second term in the State Legislature, according to an announcement by House Speaker Brian C. Bosma (R-Indianapolis).

Bosma has revealed committee assignments and leadership appointments for the Indiana House Republican Caucus. Committee chairmen and caucus leaders are selected biennially by the majority party after each election year.

Rep. Baird has been appointed to serve as a member on the House Ways and Means, Agriculture and Rural Development committees and the Statutory Committee on Interstate and International Cooperation.

"Ways and Means provides the opportunity to review budgetary requests and balance those with revenue forecasts," Baird said. "Indiana has been diligent about living within their financial means, and my goal is to continue that trend."

Standing committees are an integral part of the legislative process. Committees with specific expertise receive public testimony and work out the details of proposed legislation before it is heard on the House floor.

"I am looking forward to working with the members of the House of Representatives, including all of the new members," Rep. Baird said. "Our constituents expect us to work together, and I intend to do my part to accomplish that goal."

As District 44 representative, Baird represents all of Putnam County and portions of Clay, Park, Owen and Morgan counties.
