Monday, December 10, 2012

The Putnam County Community Foundation Board of Directors will be getting two new members on Jan. 1.

Jeffrey Rich and Vivian Whitaker of Cloverdale were elected to the board in June, and will serve a three-year term.

"We are lucky to have them on the board," Dean Gambill, director of community development for the Foundation, said. "They have been active members of both the community and the Foundation already, and will bring that experience to their new roles."

Jeff Rich

Rich enjoys a variety of occupations, including being the owner and auctioneer of Jeff Rich Auction Services, driving a school bus for Cloverdale Schools and managing the Cloverdale Space Place storage facility.

He also takes time to give back to the community as a member of the Putnam County Board of Realtors, the Cloverdale FFA Advisory Board and the Cloverdale Masonic Lodge F&AM 132. He also supports the Putnam County 4-H programs, donating his time and auctioneering skills.

Rich has been married to his wife, Kathy, for 23 years, and has one daughter, Tiffany Pulliam. Watching Teegan, his grandson, grow has become his favorite hobby.

Vivian Whitaker

Vivian Whitaker has returned to her hometown of Cloverdale after serving 28 years as an educator and coach.

Graduating from Cloverdale High School in 1968, she went on to earn a BS in general science, a MS in science education, and an Ed. S. in school administration and supervision from Indiana University.

Whitaker's career has included being a science teacher, assistant principal, principal and assistant superintendent. She also coached girls' basketball, volleyball and track, and served as an athletic director.

Whitaker's interest in education led her to become a member of Phi Delta Kappa, a lifetime member of both the National Science Teachers Association and the Indiana Association of School Principals. She also serves as a board member of the Retired Principals' Service Corps.

Since returning to Cloverdale, Whitaker has continued her involvement in education with an active role in the Cloverdale Community Dollars for Scholars. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, family and her dog, Desi. She loves music and plays the clarinet, alto sax and organ.

The Putnam County Community Foundation is a public charity established in 1985 to serve donors, award grants and conduct community development to enrich the quality of life in Putnam County.

The Foundation administers more than 230 funds and has awarded more than $8.5 million in grants and scholarships since inception.
