Putnam County Community Foundation history book on sale

Wednesday, December 12, 2012

At its annual holiday party on Dec. 5, Vicki Timm, president of the Putnam County Community Foundation, announced the availability of a newly published book, "Inspiring the Giving Spirit," which provides a comprehensive look at the first 25 years of the Foundation's history and service to Putnam County.

With more than 336 color photos, the book traces the Foundation's origins, growth, challenges and triumphs, and concludes with a description of its silver anniversary celebration on Oct. 2, 2010.

Photos include those of board presidents, endowment and fund founders, honorary board members, grant recipients, and a four-page collage of the 25th-year celebration.

Appendices provide useful information such as lists of funds and endowments, board members, Founder's Club members, Spirit of Philanthropy winners, Legacy Society members, honorary board members, Lilly Endowment Community Scholars, and a cumulative list of donors from 1985 through Dec. 31, 2010.

Written and compiled by Malcolm Romine and Elaine Peck, the book was designed by Rita Schendel.

Romine has written and published several other Putnam County history books, including "Clodfelter Pioneer Days," "Portland Mills Remembered" and "Indiana Carringtons."

Peck has served as executive director of the Community Foundation since 2002.

Schendel has designed several local publications, including the Community Foundation's annual reports and "Peeler Pottery: A Retrospective."

"Inspiring the Giving Spirit" may be purchased for $20 at the Community Foundation office, 2 S. Jackson St., Greencastle, IN 46135. For additional information, visit www.pcfoundation.org, or call 653-4978.
