City Police

The theft of a Yamaha Zuma motor scooter from a Greencastle residence is under investigation by City Police.

The black and silver 2002 Yamaha was reportedly taken from property on South Jackson Street between 8 p.m. Jan. 1 and 8 a.m. Jan. 2.

Officer Darrel Bunten reported that tire tracks and footprints in the snow indicate the scooter was apparently pushed away and loaded on a truck.

No dollar value was available on the stolen scooter.

Four recent property-damage accidents were investigated by city officers.

-- At 3:07 p.m. Wednesday, a two-vehicle mishap was reported in the Kroger store parking lot at 821 Indianapolis Rd.

Officer Bunten reported that Kimberly Warner, 41, Greencastle, was driving down a parking lane in a 2009 Subaru Legacy when a collision occurred as Melesa Doty, 46, backed a 2005 Dodge Caravan from a parking space.

Total damage was estimated at $2,500-$5,000.

-- At 1:02 p.m. Monday, a two-vehicle accident was reported on Indianapolis Road in front of the entrance/exit of Putnam Plaza.

Devin Fitzsimmons, 16, Greencastle, was attempting to exit the shopping center lot, driving a 2003 Ford Expedition, while trying to cross Indianapolis Road over to Buffalo Wild Wings.

As traffic backed up from the stoplight at Round Barn Road, another driver motioned Fitzsimmons across without noticing that Leslie Luke 43, Greencastle, was westbound in the center turn lane in a 2000 Mitsubishi Mirage.

The resulting collision caused in an estimated $5,000-$10,000 damage, Officer Albert Epple reported.

-- At 8:20 a.m. Dec. 29, a one-vehicle mishap was reported at Ambler Hill Florist at Walnut and Jackson streets.

Capt. Mike Hanlon reported that Billie Bumgardner, 36, Greencastle, was parking a 2007 GMC Yukon Denali when the brakes failed on the ice and snow, causing the vehicle to slip over the parking block, through a bush and into the side of the building.

Total damage in the incident was listed at $2,500-$5,000.

-- At 12:40 a.m. Dec. 21, a one-vehicle accident occurred on U.S. 231 south of Veterans Highway.

Gary Harlan, 29, Greencastle, was northbound on U.S. 231, driving a 2007 Dodge Ram, when the vehicle slid on snow-covered pavement and struck a concrete post in front of the residence at 1235 Bloomington St.

Officer Ed Wilson estimated total damage at $5,000-$10,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department has responded to several recent dispatches.

* On Tuesday, Jan. 1 at 10:26 a.m., personnel assisted Operation Life at 1106 Avenue D. Cleared 10:59 a.m.

At 3:32 p.m. firefighters responded to a motor vehicle accident east of Dunbar Bridge, where they assisted Operation Life with loading a patient and cleaned up fluids on the roadway. Cleared 4:23 p.m.

* On Wednesday, Jan. 2 at 11:33 p.m. crews investigated a fire alarm at 208 E. Olive St. A dirty detector was found to be the cause. Firefighters reset the alarm and returned to station at 12:11 a.m.

At 11:41 p.m. personnel investigated a possible gas odor at 87 Woodhaven Dr. they found a clogged drain to the water heater, but no further problems. GFD cleared the scene at 12:10 a.m.

* On Thursday, Jan. 3 at 10:57 a.m. firefighters, along with Operation Life and Greencastle Police, investigated a possible carbon monoxide issue at 16 S. Arlington St. No problem was found and responders cleared the scene at 11:16 a.m.
