Clovers' new weapons bring offense in 71-61 loss to Covenant Christian

Rady just wants to piece them all together. But Cloverdale has a basketball season to play.
Cloverdale showed some of that potential on Friday night, netting a season high 61 points. "Yeah, but you can't give up 71 (points)," Rady said.
Covenant Christian's Warriors outscored Cloverdale 71-61.
"We've got to have some more practice with this group. At the first of the year we only had six guys, now we've got eight guys. We got a little deeper squad now, but to bring these guys together we got to have more practice and keep building and have some patience," Rady said.
Cloverdale worked the ball inside to Zach Dorman. He made his season debut count with 28 points. The 6-6 center also grabbed 13 rebounds. Sophomore forward Brantson Scott scored 13 points.
"There are some things that we did (well) tonight, but there are still some things that we've got to get correct," Rady said.
The Clovers gave up 70-plus points for the third time this season and, despite a front-court zone advantage of two-to-four inches per player, they were outrebounded 29-26.
"We've got to get more balance (in our scoring) and our defense has got to get extremely better," Rady said.
Cloverdale and Covenant Christian both started the night with six-game losing streaks.
The lead changed hands four times in the opening quarter. Schroer gave Cloverdale a 14-10 lead with a three-pointer with 2:06 to play in the first, but that was the Clovers last basket for the next five minutes and 14 seconds.
Covenant Christian went on a 13-0 run to build a 23-14 lead before Cloverdale's Scott broke the drought with a 10-foot shot at the 4:52 mark of the second period.
While the Clovers turned the ball over six times in the second quarter the Warriors extended their lead to 40-25 at halftime.
Cloverdale put together a mini-rally in the middle of the third quarter. Senior Brody Pfaff scored a basket, then Zach Dorman stole the ball, took it the length of the court and slammed it through the hoop. The emotional charge didn't last as the Warriors responded with a 7-0 run to lead 58-41 going into the fourth quarter.
Covenant Christian maintained its double-digit lead through the final eight minutes.
In junior varsity action, Covenant Christian won 46-18.
Cloverdale now gets a week of practice to prepare for a West Central Conference with Cascade.
