Take Home Literacy

Monday, January 7, 2013

Cloverdale Elementary kindergarten teacher Tara Baugh (left) shows student Bailey Sutherlin and her mother Jenny how to use the "Take Home Literacy Bags" for which Baugh recently received a grant from the Putnam County Community Foundation. The grant allows Baugh to provide "Take Home Literacy Bags" for her kindergarten classroom. The literacy bags are alphabet-related and contain related collections of fiction and non-fiction books with accompanying activities. Their purpose is to connect school and home as well as increase parent's knowledge about their child's abilities. The bags are meant to supplement and extend the kindergarten curriculum while providing opportunities to practice recently acquired skills and knowledge. The grant was possible from the Foundation by a donation from the Howard and Chris Berliner Family.
