Area 30 in short meeting

Wednesday, January 9, 2013

The Area 30 Career Center board of directors met for a short meeting on Tuesday morning to discuss a few upcoming events.

Among the upcoming events are eighth-grade tours, which all five participating schools in the area will be touring the facilities.

Each of the tours will last about two hours and will include a discussion about several career paths.

"It's a very interactive tour," said Executive Director Lora Busch. "The students select three different programs they want to attend and then our high school students lead the activities in the career programs that the eighth-graders attend. When the kids come here their senior year they all seem to remember their eighth-grade tour."

Both Cloverdale and Eminence will visit on Jan. 18, Greencastle on Jan. 25, South Putnam on Feb. 1 and North Putnam on Feb. 15.

In an effort to assist both students and parents, Matt Krieg of College Planning will be providing expert assistance on Feb. 12 as students begin to fill out their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Krieg recently spoke to the students in November about planning for college with a focus on financial planning. He also provided guidebooks with numerous resources.

Postcard announcements will be sent to all seniors currently enrolled at Area 30 as well as send information to guidance counselors to share with others at their schools that may be interested.

The board once again discussed the issue of the 2013-14 school calendar. A draft copy was presented with minor changes, but was tabled for approval during February's meeting.

The next Area 30 board meeting will take place on Feb. 12 at 9 a.m.
