SPHS swimmers split with Chargers
The South Putnam swimmers didn't have long to think about their performance at Saturday's West Central Conference meet as the coed squad hosted North Montgomery on Tuesday.
The boys' team got a win, 95-90, while the girls came just short, losing to the Chargers 97-88.
"They had a good, well-rounded meet," SPHS coach Matthew Edwards said. "We know North Mont is a tough team. We swam against them last year and we remember."
Both Eagles' teams got wins in the medley and 200 free relays.
Katie Hansel (50 free), Tayler Arnold (50 free) and Ben Albright (500 free) each had individual wins.
"Everybody did a great job coming in," Edwards said. "The things that we talked about after the conference meet on Saturday, they really put it into work today."
Edwards said he had a chance to give his team areas to focus on during its two practices on Monday.
"A lot of it's technique, and a lot of it is just shear willpower," he said. "When they're dead in a race and they need their willpower to take over and get them through and beat the people around them, and they really did a good job of that today; letting their attitude and their mentality work to their advantage."
South Putnam will again have a short turnaround, hosting Owen Valley on Thursday at 6 p.m.
