NPHS falls to South Vermillion 56-15

ROACHDALE -- The North Putnam wrestling team hosted South Vermillion Wednesday night. It was a hard-fought meet ending in North Putnam's 56-15 defeat.

North Putnam's coach, Bucky Kramer, was pleased with his team efforts despite the loss.

"In terms of dual meet scoring, we are not where we want to be but improvement-wise I am very pleased," Kramer said.

The Cougars picked up three wins, two by pin fall.

Senior Dean Kleiber (120) had five take downs and one near fall against South Vermillion's Bryce Magee, who had three escapes. Kleiber won the match by pinning Magee.

Senior Eric Davis (285), of North Putnam, also had a great win by pin. Davis faced off against his South Vermillion opponent, a junior also named Eric Davis.

Freshman Trevor Bingman (152) fought hard for his win against David Holt.

Bingman pulled the win by points in the last few seconds of the third round. He was down by two points most of the match before gaining three points for a near fall in the closing moments.

North Putnam's loss can be attributed to giving up four forfeits, illnesses and injuries.

Coach Kramer was very proud of his seniors, Kleiber, Devan Attkisson (138) and Davis.

"I can't say enough about these guys," Kramer said. "All season long they have overcome adversity. This is our last dual meet of the year and we have gotten ten wins this year, which we haven't done in a long time."

North Putnam is off until the sectionals at Avon High School on Jan. 26.
