County Jail

Two people were booked into the Putnam County Jail on Wednesday, Jan. 23.

* At 8:17 p.m. Kimberly Nichols, 44, Anderson, was arrested for probation violation.

* At 9:05 p.m. Mark Russell Testerman, 51, Greencastle, was charged with domestic battery.

Sheriff's Department

On Wednesday, Jan. 23 at 7:25 a.m. Connie J. Henderson, 51, Crawfordsville, was southbound on U.S. 231 in a 2011 Toyota Prius when a deer ran into her path.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to several recent runs.

* On Wednesday, Jan. 23 at 12:59 a.m. firefighters investigated a smoke scare at 922 N. Madison St. Investigation revealed a problem with the home's furnace motor overheating. Crews returned to station at 1:36 p.m.

At 2:27 p.m. responders investigated another smoke scare at 2 Paradise Lane. Another furnace problem was discovered as the problem, and crews returned to station at 2:58 p.m.

At 4:41 p.m. GFD responded to a report of a structure fire at 239 Hillsdale Ave. They returned to station at 5:43 p.m.

* On Thursday, Jan. 24 at 4:28 a.m. crews assisted Operation Life at 300 S. Warren Dr., returning to station at 4:54 a.m.
