INDIANAPOLIS--A local woman was assaulted as she finished up a shopping trip with her husband on Saturday, Jan. 26. The woman, Delia Kamplain, was one of three assaulted on Saturday by an Indianapolis man.

The suspect, 29-year-old Nathaniel Sconiers Jr., was arrested after assaulting two women and hitting a police officer in the face on Saturday around 4 p.m.

"He came across the street and came up behind me." Kamplain stated, "Then he hit me. My face went numb."

Kamplain went on to explain that she didn't see it coming at all. After the attack happened Kamplain's husband ran after the suspect for a bit then went back to his wife to take care of her.

After assaulting Kamplain, Sconiers ran away and was later stopped by an officer near Meridian and Georgia streets. The officer was talking to the suspect when Sconiers hit him in the face.

The officer tried to detain him with the use of a stun gun but failed. The suspect was finally apprehended in the 100 block of South Meridian Street.

Kamplain was shocked that this happened. She recalled some of the details of the attack.

"He didn't say anything. He hit me, laughed and took off." Kamplain told the Banner Graphic. "He didn't even grab for my purse."

Sconiers was interviewed by Channel 8, WISH TV after the incident. When asked about the assaults and hitting the officer, he did not give a clear answer and did not deny the allegations.

As a result of the assault Kamplain received a busted lip, three loose teeth and a swollen nose. She was shocked by the seemingly random attack on herself and the other women.

"I wish it hadn't happened to me," Kamplain said.

Kamplain did have some advice to offer to people that she learned from her ordeal.

"People need to pay attention more," Kamplain stated.

No charges have been filed against Sconiers as of yet.
