Employees recognized during correctional employee week
PUTNAMVILLE -- Governor Michael Pence recently signed a proclamation declaring May 5-11 as "Correctional Employee Week."
"Correctional employees perform their duties in a variety of professional positions," said Pence. "Including custody, medical and mental health care, education, substance abuse treatment, religious services, transitional services and numerous other occupations."
In observance of Correctional Employee Week, the Putnamville Correctional Facility hosted a week of activities for employees that included, picnics, corn hole, ping pong, fitness walks, bowling and basketball with Superintendent Stanley Knight.
"I consider it a true honor to work beside you each day," Knight said as he addressed the staff assembly. "The activities scheduled this week serve as a token of my appreciation. Thank you to everyone who contributed to make this endeavor a success."
During a staff appreciation ceremony, retirees and deceased personnel were honored and employees were recognized for their outstanding contributions to the facility.
Caseworker Nora Spence received the Non-Custody Employee of the Year award and Lieutenant Brian Chalfin was named the Custody Employee of the Year.
Recipients of Employee of the Quarter awards were Lieutenant Clarence Caddell-Custody Supervisor of the Quarter, Officer Travis Sutherlin- Custody Employee of the Quarter, Adam Cornelison- Non-Custody Supervisor of the Quarter, and Terri Jones- Non-Custody Employee of the Quarter.
In recognition of years of service 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 35-year pin and plaques were awarded to staff, in addition to a certificate and monetary award for perfect attendance.
The week's events concluded with a motorcycle run, softball game, ice cream social and gun shoot.
A special thanks is extended to the Culinary Arts program and Aramark food service for preparation of the refreshments and the facility's Promoting Positive Corrections Culture committee for organizing the events.
