PCPL board works toward establishing book endowment

Saturday, July 13, 2013

The Putnam County Public Library Board held a special meeting this week to begin steps in establishing an endowment for the Imagination Library program.

Imagination Library is a national program started by Dolly Parton that provides the local community with a free book each month for children under the age of five.

The cost for each child in the program is $25 a year. Money is generated each year through donations from local businesses and community members.

The board successfully took the first step this week in establishing the endowment through the Putnam County Community Foundation by voting unanimously to put forth the $12,000 that is needed.

If the library were to be awarded the endowment, it would receive 50 cents on the dollar.

The application is due to the Foundation by Aug. 1.
