Children's writing workshops to begin at library, museum

Saturday, July 13, 2013

A series of writing workshops for children will be taught by Jessica Maginity this summer at both the Putnam County Museum and the Putnam County Public Library.

Maginty is a senior at DePauw, an English Literature major, and a Putnam County native.

Her workshops will feature fairytales, folklore, fiction writing and other activities.

For her Honor Scholar thesis, Maginty will continue her fairytale and folklore theme creative writing and reading workshops as an after-school program.

The Putnam County Museum will hold workshops on Tuesday, July 16 from 10 -- 11 a.m. for children in grades K -- 2 (flexible).

Children will view and respond to works of art in the museum, do activities and hear a story about how the bluebird and coyote got their colors.

The second workshop will be held on Thursday, July 18 from 10 -- 11 a.m. Children will tour the museum's artifacts and have writing and other activities related to their exploration.

At the Putnam County Public Library, workshops for children in grades K -- 5 will be held on Wednesday, July 24 and Wednesday, Aug. 7 from 2-3 p.m.

Children will have activities that explore the fun, form and function of words.
