lSheriff's Departmentl

At 6 p.m. on Friday, Deputy Philip Troyer was dispatched to a one-vehicle accident at the westbound 37-mile marker of Interstate 70. On arrival, he found a 2007 Chrysler Sebring facing southbound in the right lane.

Troyer approached the vehicle, noticing that the driver, Kristen P. Newburn, 27, West Terre Haute, looked dazed. The deputy asked Newburn how old she was, and she said she did not know.

The top of the car was crushed and the driver's door was heavily damaged, so Troyer waited for fire personnel to open the door and remove Newburn from the car.

She complained of neck pain and was transported to Union Hospital in Terre Haute by Operation Life.

A witness told Troyer that Newburn was driving behind her in the passing lane prior to the accident. The witness said vehicles began to slow in front of her, and she saw Newburn's vehicle swerve into the right lane, appearing to lose control and leave the road.

From damage to the car and marks on the road, Troyer said the car must have left the roadway and rolled several times before coming to rest upright.

Damage was estimated at $25,001-$50,000.
