A recent jury deliberated 45 minutes to convict a Terre Haute man of dealing in methamphetamines, stemming from his November 2006 arrest in Putnam County.

Last Wednes-day, Danny J. Shuler, 45, Terre Haute, was convicted of a class A felony possession of methamphetamines with the intent to deal, and a class C felony possession of methamphetamine charge.

Deputy Prosecutor Jim Hanner, who handled the case, said Shuler was a passenger in a car on Interstate 70 on Nov. 2, 2006.

He was pulled over by an assisting police officer working for the Putnam County Sheriff's Department.

Hanner said the deputy found 81 grams of meth, separated into seven different packages, inside a backpack belong to Shuler.

Officers believed the drugs were intended for individual sale, rather than personal use, due to the way it was packaged.

Hanner indicated that it was a significant amount of drugs.

Shuler's sentencing has been scheduled for July 25 in Putnam Circuit Court. He faces a possible 50 years in prison.
