James Lloyd Passwater, 60, Brazil, died Wednesday at Union Hospital, Terre Haute.

Born in Marion County, he was the son of Lloyd B. and Phyllis (Culmann) Passwater Jr.

A U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, he was a self-employed paint and body worker. He was a member of St. Johns United Church of Christ, Carbon Lodge 529, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, Zorah Shrine Temple and American Legion Post 58.

He married Barbara A. Wells, who survives.

Also surviving are a son, James L. Passwater II, Terre Haute; daughter Sherry Cowan, Atlanta, Ind.; brother Mark Passwater and wife Sandie, Ridgecrest, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday at DeBaun Springhill Chapel in Terre Haute with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis.

Visitation is 4-6:30 p.m. Friday.
