Edgar Allen Shirar, 83, Darlington, died early Monday at his residence.

Born in Carroll County, he was the son of Emerson and Flossie (Allen) Shirar.

He attended Jefferson School at Jeffersonville, and worked at Mid-States Steel and Wire in Crawfordsville. He farmed in the Darlington area for 20 years, and operated the Darlington Cafe and an antique store in Darlington.

He married Evelyn Harvey on Nov. 21, 1961 at Crawfordsville. She survives.

Also surviving are four sons, James Shirar and wife Linda, Roachdale, Robert Shirar and wife Donna, Darlington, Richard Shirar and wife Tana, Crawfordsville, and Philip Shirar and wife Debbie, Darlington; stepson James Harwood, Crawfordsville; stepdaughters Deborah Harvey and husband Richard, Alvin, Ill., and Judy Helgers and husband Steve, Darlington; three brothers, Robert Shirar, Indianapolis, and Ted Shirar and wife Maimie, and Fred Shirar and wife Pat, all of Frankfort; three sisters, Mary Ruth Hord, Kokomo, Jane Robinson and husband Don, Tucson, Ariz., and Joyce Schultz and husband Ron, Lafayette; 28 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, four brothers and two sisters.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Burkhart Funeral Home, Crawfords-ville, with Richard Shirar officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Darlington.

Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Wednesday.
