William H. Hicks, 75, Brazil, died Friday at his residence following a brief illness.

Born in Terre Haute, he was the son of the late Cyril W. and Mary Herbert Hicks. He married Sue Ann Brown Hicks on Feb. 16, 1957, and she survives.

A 1950 graduate of Brazil High School, he was the former owner of Hicks Auto Supply, a business founded by his father in 1921. He retired about 10 years ago and later worked for several years on the Clay County Alcohol Beverage Commission.

A Korean War veteran, he was a member for 52 years of the American Legion and in 2005 received its Distinguished Service Award. A commander of the local post 2, he held the position on three occasions. In addition, he had served in many capacities at both state and national levels and had been an attendee at 40 national conventions.

Other memberships included the 40 et 8, V.F.W. Post 1127, B.P.O. Elks, the Moose and Eagles lodges, Masonic Lodge 264, and the Last Man's Club 5, all of Brazil; and the Scottish Rite, Valley of Terre Haute.

Additional survivors include a son, Troy and wife Cindy Hicks, Brazil; a sister, Ann Hicks, Brazil; one grandson, and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Lawson-Miller Chapel, Brazil, with Rev. Howard Hughes officiating. Cremation will follow.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
