Fred Norman Nelson, 74, Greencastle, died Friday.

Born in Pocatello, Idaho, he was the son of Clara (Henderson) and Charles Norman Nelson.

He graduated from Pocatello High School and received a Bachelor of Arts in Theater from the Pasadena Playhouse and a Bachelor of Arts from Idaho State University.

He received a Master of Fine Arts degree in playwriting at the Drama School of Yale University.

He taught at Pocatello and Preston High Schools.

He was a professor at DePauw University for 38 years. He directed plays at DePauw and musicals for the LDS Church.

Survivors include sisters Wyla and husband Howard Hollingsworth, and Janice Jarvis and husband George; nieces and nephews; and several grand-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and niece Rebecca Hollingsworth.

Services will take place Saturday at the Webb Funeral Home, 109 E. Oneida, Preston, Idaho, 83263. Burial will be at Preston City Cemetery.

An open house for Nelson's friends in the Greencastle area will take place from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at his residence, 705 Castleton Drive.
