Marjorie "Marj" Black Ellis, 87, Zionsville, formerly of Greencastle, died Friday at St. Vincent Hospice.

Born in Greencastle, she was the daughter of Edwin and Estelle (Gifford) Black. She married Gerald "Jerry" Ellis, and he survives.

A 1937 graduate of Greencastle High School, she worked 18 years as a secretary and office manager for Indiana Insurance Company before leaving to assist her husband with his insurance career. She graduated from Indiana Business College.

Ellis was a member of Zionsville United Methodist Church and was past president of the Zionsville Women's Club and the Village Arts and Study Club.

Additional survivors include a niece, Barbara Black; a nephew, John Black; and two great-nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Lois Jester and brother Gifford Black.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center, 105 W. Pine St., Zionsville. Burial will follow at Zionsville Cemetery.

Visitation is 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
