Morris G. "Red" Boyce, 82, formerly of Poland and Brazil, died Thursday at The Waters of Greencastle where he had lived since January.

Born in Center Point, he was the son of Raymond and Edith Youngblood Boyce.

He began working as a mechanic at the former Jap Turner Garage in Brazil in 1943 and left in 1945 to become a coal miner for Big Bend Coal for seven years. From 1952-88, he was a dragline oiler for the AMAX mine south of Staunton before retiring.

He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America.

His first wife was Juanita Parks Boyce whom he married Sept. 6, 1945. He married Ruth Knight Boyce March 28, 1981 and she preceded him in death on Dec. 6, 2004. Also preceding him in death was a brother, LeRoy Boyce.

Survivors include a daughter, Sandra and husband Gary Reubeck, Brazil; two step-daughters, Loretta Young and husband David, and Lisa Spencer and husband Doug, all of Reelsville; a step-son, Larry and wife Linda McCullough, Terre Haute; three sisters, Waneta Todd, Staunton, Frances James, Brazil, and Loretta Meyers, Poland; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Lawson-Miller Chapel in Brazil with Pastor Owen Youngblood officiating. Burial will follow at Croy's Creek Cemetery.

Visitation is noon until service time Monday at the funeral chapel.
