Daycare center shuts down

Friday, April 21, 2006

Owners of a Bainbridge childcare facility where a 4-year-old girl was injured last week have voluntarily shut down, Putnam County prosecutor's investigator Thomas Miller said Thursday.

Down Home Day Care, in Bainbridge, shut its doors after news broke that 4-year-old Ashlie Castellanos was found hanging by her neck from a wooden swing set on April 12.

The child received what investigators say were life threatening injuries from the rope around her neck.

They said the daycare workers didn't call 911 after discovering the girl or tell the girl's mother, Jennifer Castellanos of Heritage Lake, about it.

Miller told the BannerGraphic he will turn his report over to Putnam County Prosecutor Tim Bookwalter today. Bookwalter said he will review the report and consider possible charges next week.
