June targeted for Gas America construction

Construction could start in early to mid June on a new Gas America station on Indianapolis Road at 10th Street.

Gas America vice president Keith White told the BannerGraphic the family-owned company is anxious to get started on its Greencastle location.

"We're real excited to be there," White said. "We just think it's a great community."

The new location is on two lots at the northwest corner of the intersection. It will be the company's 80th location in Indiana and Ohio.

White said the company is independent of any national chain and buys its product on the open market.

"We are usually a penny under the major brands," he said. "Our grocery items are also usually lower."

The new gas station and convenience store will be open 24 hours at first to see if the demand is there for a round-the-clock dealer, White said. If the sales are low, the business will close at night.

Construction on the project will take about 60-70 working days, he said, and the start depends on when final permits are received. If that process moves ahead as planned, the business could be open by the fall.
