Foundation's 20th anniversary event features Mutz

Friday, June 2, 2006

Former Indiana Lt. Gov. John M. Mutz returns to Putnam County on Thursday, June 15, speaking at the 20th annual meeting of the Putnam County Community Foundation.

Mutz is currently the Chairman of Lumina Foundation for Education, a $1 billion private charitable foundation dedicated to expanding access to higher education.

In 1990, Mutz, then president of Lilly Endowment, spoke at the annual meeting of the Putnam County Community Foundation. As a result, Putnam County was the first to be told about the Lilly GIFT (Giving Indiana Funds for Tomorrow) initiative. Under his leadership, the Endowment expanded its community development work outside the Indianapolis area by using grants to encourage the creation of more than 45 local community foundations.

Mutz served as Chairman of the City of Indianapolis Department of Waterworks (2002), President of PSI Energy, Indiana's largest electric utility (1993-1999), president of Lilly Endowment, Inc. (1989-1993), as Indiana's lieutenant governor (1981-89), as State Senator (1971-1980), and as State Representative (1967-1970).

The 20th Anniversary Celebration of the Community Foundation is at 5 p.m. June 15 at the Walden Inn Social Center. To register, contact Nelda Shoemaker at 653-4978 or 866-653-4978.
