Hunting for Treasures not necessary after visible move

Tuesday, June 27, 2006

Greencastle residents might have noticed a change in one the of stores on the courthouse square last week.

Treasures in the Cellar, originally located on West Walnut Street, moved last Wednesday and the store has been renamed Treasures on the Square.

Lynda Dunbar told the BannerGraphic that when she opened the cellar she wanted to move into that space, but she waited too long and the space was rented out to It's Only Natural. When the space became available again recently, Dunbar took the opportunity and moved.

"We did really well in the cellar," said Dunbar. "But we get a lot of exposure here."

Dunbar also said that they have been getting a lot of people traveling through Greencastle stop in to check out the shop.

Treasures on the Square still offers the same gifts, candies and fudge, but they have also added sandwiches and milkshakes to the menu. Their most popular sandwiches are the pineapple cashew chicken salad and a smoked turkey. All of the sandwiches they sell are named after some of the old stores from Greencastle's past. The chicken salad sandwich is named after Owl's Drugstore and the smoked turkey is named after The Wuertz.

According to Dunbar, customers are liking the new set up. Customers can look around the store, sit down to enjoy a cup of coffee and a chat with a friend and get back up again to look at the gifts.

This is very similar to the concept seen in many bookstores.

All gift items in the store are created and painted by Putnam County residents.
