Greencastle textbook rental starts Aug. 8

The schedule for the opening of the 2006-07 school year in the Greencastle Community Schools has been announced by Supt. Robert Green.

This year's textbook rental dates are Aug. 8 and 9. Registration for all elementary students, kindergarten through grade 5, will be conducted at Tzouanakis Intermediate School. Students may register and rent books at TZ, GMS, and GHS from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday Aug. 8 and Wednesday, Aug. 9. Payment for textbook is due at time of rental. Greencastle Schools will once again be accepting the use of Visa and MasterCard credit card services for the payment of textbook rental. Each building will have the credit card service available. Individuals unable to pay at the time of rental must make arrangements with the building principal for payment. A minimum payment of $5 is due upon registration. High school students may pick up schedules during textbook rental dates.

Parents of students who have never presented a certified copy of a birth certificate or up-to-date shot records must do so at the time of registration. Students in grades 1-12 without that information on file with not be allowed to register.

Monday, Aug. 14 is an inservice day for teachers. Tuesday, Aug. 15 is the first day of school for students grades 1-12. Monday, Aug. 21 is the first day of school for kindergartners. Students must attend full day. Buses will run on regular schedule. Children must be five years of age on or before Aug. 1 to enroll in kindergarten.

Student-Parent Guides will be available for all parents of students of the Greencastle Schools at the time of textbook rental. Incorporated in the handbook guide are guidelines and other helpful information about the Greencastle School system for parents and students.

Kindergarten parents should bring a completed medical record form when book rental fees are paid. A birth certificate or hospital certificate as proof of the child's age is to be provided if they did not bring a certificate to the sign up. The medical forms may be obtained from the school principals. All children in kindergarten and first grade are to be immunized against Hepatitis B for enrollment in the 2006-07 school year. Students need to either have completed or be on schedule to complete the three dose series as a requirement to entering kindergarten and first grade. All students entering grade 6 must receive an additional measles shot (preferable an MMR booster) to bring their shot record up to date. You may obtain free immunizations from the Putnam County Health Services Clinic at 653-6171 and the Board of Health at 653-5210. At either place you must have an appointment and you must bring with you the child's immunization record.

Free and reduced lunches are available through Federal programs in the schools for those who qualify. The criteria and applications for these programs will be available at the time of textbook rental.

Principals of the schools will be available in their buildings beginning Monday, July 31 for consultation.

The textbook rental fees for primary students are $58 for kindergarten, $81 for grade 1, and $70 for grade 2.

Intermediate textbook rental fees are $86 for grade 3, $73 for grade 4, and $76 for grade 5.

Middle school rental fees are $87.56 for grade 6, $89.07 for grade 7, and $99.86 for grade 8.

High school rental fees depend on courses taken.

School lunch fees will be $1.90 for grades 1-5 and $2 for grades 6-12. School breakfast fees will be $1 for grades 1-12. Milk will be 35 cents.

Beginning and dismissal times for students will be 8:15 a.m.-2:50 p.m. for elementary, 8:05 a.m.-3:10 p.m. for middle school, and 8 a.m. -3:05 p.m. for high school students.
