Board OK's rezoning of property

Monday, August 7, 2006

One month after tabling the issue, the Cloverdale Plan Commission passed a motion allowing resident Ina Johnson to rezone property she owns.

At Thursday's monthly meeting, the board unanimously approved the motion to rezone the property from Residential 1 to Residential 2 in order to build more apartments in the area.

The board had tabled the motion in July because it wanted to conduct further research on the area.

Despite passing the motion, board president Jerry Acrea said there were some stipulations.

Acrea told Johnson at the meeting there were some problems concerning the road the property is located on.

He said he had checked with CSX railroad as to whether the road was on existing property owned by the railroad.

"That's going to be a real problem," Acrea said. "It's something that's going to have to be found out as you progress."

Acrea said it would cost money for further research in regard to who owns the road, which is only one lane.

He said the board believed the property "slipped through the cracks," during rezoning. He added it could take at least two months to get an answer from CSX.

Acrea told Johnson the road issue had to be solved before she could start building, but suggested the board make rezoning of the property its first priority.

Board member Mike Gray motioned to rezone the property from Residential 1 to Residential 2, with John Davis giving the second.

The board then voted unanimously to approve the measure.

Board member Larry Fidler was not present at the meeting.

The board meets regularly on the first Thursday of each month at Town Hall.

Its next meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Sept. 7.
