'Hometown Hero' nominations now being accepted

Even in the midst of a reserved and quiet life, a hero can still be found.

It's not just the unspoken heroes whom The Waters of Greencastle and Autumn Glen want to recognize, but anybody in Putnam County that has displayed characteristics of a hero.

That is why nominations are now being accepted for the Hometown Heroes banquet on Sept. 28.

The Waters assistant administrator/CEO Holly Wachtel said, "We're wanting to recognize Putnam County heroes."

Wachtel thought September would be a good month to promote community togetherness. That community also involves The Waters and Autumn Glen.

The Waters' interim administrator Pam Sipes said the residents, who are veterans, nurses and other types of public servants, want to give back to the community.

Yet, the staff at The Waters is not limiting the area's hometown heroes have to specifically come from someone who has been recently active in public service.

"I think our forgotten heroes are the ones that live right here," Sipes said of the residents at The Waters.

This is a chance for their residents and for all of Putnam County to come together and honor hometown heroes.

"We're looking at those small acts that add up," Sipes said, as well as the big acts.

A hometown hero could be somebody who just cheers someone up or it could be a police officer, a firefighter, a nurse or anyone, Wachtel said. The staff of The Waters believes that people are never done giving back to their community and this is their opportunity to take that chance to honor the people of this county who have really made a difference and have been a hero in the life of someone here.
