A Coal City man was transported to Bloomington Hospital following a collision with a semi-truck Friday morning approximately six miles south of Cloverdale.

Cloverdale Township Volunteer firefighters were dispatched at 6:20 a.m. to the scene, approximately one mile south of the Mill Grove Store on U.S. 231.

Will Jennings, Coal City, was driving south on U.S. 231, when his vehicle collided with a semi-truck driving north, driven by Michael Prewitt, Spencer.

CTVFD Chief Kerry Shepherd said the semi-truck swerved before the collision, hitting Jennings" vehicle on the passenger side.

"How he lived through this, I have no idea," Shepherd said. "(Swerving) is probably what saved (Jennings') life."

Shepherd said Jennings' vehicle was in the northbound lane of U.S. 231 following the impact, while the semi-truck was about 15-feet from a pond near the road.

Shepherd said Prewitt was on his way to Buzzi Unicem to pick up a load of cement.

Owen County Emergency Medical Services, Indiana State Police, and the Owen County Sheriff's Dept., assisted with the accident.

"He's one lucky guy," Shepherd said of Jennings.

Shepherd said CTVFD firefighters were at the scene for more than two hours.
