'Healthy Parks, Healthy People' coming to Lieber

Be part of the "Healthy Parks, Healthy People," initiative at Lieber State Recreation Area's March to the Marsh from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sept. 9.

The day will include a variety of interpretive activities.

At 10 a.m., introductions will take place and March to the Marsh INShape walk will begin.

Those interested in participating should meet at the Hilltop Shelter House. While there, patrons can learn about reservoirs, bald eagles and turkey vultures on the hike. Limited transportation will be available for those who need it.

At 11 a.m., a tree talk is scheduled. Those interested can learn about the trees in the park and see (non-edible) tree cookie necklaces.

Lunch is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. and those in attendance will return to the shelter house. Interested patrons are asked to bring their own lunch and drink.

At 1 p.m., an Abenaki story and bracelets event is planned, while at 1:30 p.m., those in attendance will hear the true story of Smokey the Bear while having their faces painted.

The event will conclude at 2 p.m. with the singing of Taps.

A gate fee of $5 per in-state vehicle ($7 per out-of-state) will be charged at the park entrance.
