Fire district will not seek mutual aid from others

Friday, September 29, 2006

Citing the creation of a new countywide warning system, the president of the Floyd Township Fire District announced this week that he will not seek to renew mutual aid agreements with Bainbridge and Fillmore fire departments.

Wayne Mason, president of the Floyd Township Fire District Board said said the board decided since the county had implemented the mutual aid box alarm system (MABAS), there was no point in renewing the contract.

If a box alarm in Floyd Township is pulled, the fire department will receive automatic mutual aid from surrounding fire departments.

He said residents on the west side of Floyd Township might have to wait a little longer for emergency services, however, they will still receive the same coverage.

Before Floyd Fire Department was created, township residents had to rely upon Bainbridge and Fillmore to come to their aid during an emergency.

Mason said he has been assured that the Bainbridge Fire Department would not respond unless Floyd firefighters were all ready on the scene and were requesting assistance.
