Get ready to shop at 32nd annual Berry St. festival

Wednesday, October 4, 2006

The 32nd annual Berry Street Flea Market is planned for Saturday, Oct. 7.

The Berry Street Flea Market, located on the south edge of Greencastle, has grown during the years from what started out in the block of Jackson to Indiana streets to stretching from Jackson to Bloomington streets. It also includes areas on Indiana and Locust streets, College Avenue and Sunset Boulevard.

Visitors to the flea market will find food throughout the neighborhood, including the traditional ham and beans with cornbread served by Boy Scout Troop 90. The troop will be located under the big white tent at Berry and Warren streets, and will also be serving up biscuits and gravy for breakfast.

Other food selections include barbecue, hot dogs, pizza and more. For those with a sweet tooth, plenty of baked goods, pies, cakes, sweet breads, cookies and candy will be available, as well as persimmon pulp for recipes. Handcrafted items from local artists include knitted baby items, handcrafted and painted birdhouses and furniture, homemade candles and crafted jewelry. Antiques and collectibles are a big seller, along with flea market and yard sale items.

Portable toilets will be placed along Warren Street (which is closed for that day) and in the parking lot of Berry Insurance at Locust Street.

The city has exempted parking restrictions along Berry Street for Saturday.
