Cloverdale's varisty baseball team defeated North Putnam at home Tuesday night 6-1.

The Clovers got three runs in the first inning and never looked back.

Cody Nees and Kyle McCammon both struck out to open the game, but the next four Clover batters reached base.

Coty Blair and Chase Haltom both reached on singles, and Blair was driven in on an RBI single from Kyle Schroer.

Up next was Brandon Mescall, who knocked in a double to score Schroer and make it a 3-0 ballgame.

Nees scored in the bottom of the second on a solo home run to push the Clovers' lead to 4-0, and Haltom added one more run in the third inning thanks to an RBI triple from Jason Wilson.

The Cougars' lone run came in the fourth inning on an RBI triple from Jake Mullis that drove in Brayden Dahlstrom.

Nees got the win for the Clovers. He pitched the full seven innings and surrendered just four hits and one earned run.

He also tallied nine strikeouts in the game and walked just three.

Kyle Rooker took the loss for North Putnam. He lasted three innings in which he gave up all five Cloverdale runs, all earned. He gave up five hits and struck out five.

He was relieved in the fourth inning by Shelby Reed, who gave up one hit and struck out two.

Dahlstrom, Mullis, Rooker and Tyler Trent recorded all four of North Putnam's hits.

Nees, McCammon, Blair, Haltom, Mescall and Wilson had one hit each for Cloverdale, accounting for the Clovers' six hits in the game.
