The Greencastle girls' varsity soccer team shutout South Vermillion Tuesday, 4-0, improving its record to 10-5.

Leading the way for the Tiger Cubs, Sheridan Woodall scored the first goal of the game just minutes into the first half. Becky Nispel, Alys Moore and Kylie Rowings also scored goals for the Tiger Cubs.

Heading in to sectional play next week, Greencastle coach Maurice McKee is pleased with where his team stands.

"I'm feeling pretty good," McKee said. "I think we've got a good shot. We're going to have to be playing a good solid game to get out of the first game."

The Tiger Cubs are scheduled to play the winner of the Terre Haute South and Terre Haute North game Saturday, Oct. 15 at 10 a.m. Although they got a big win Tuesday, McKee knows they still have some things they can work on.

"The girls were doing some good passing," he said. "We're still going to work on passing. Accuracy is what we're hunting for now. We're getting the passes in, we just need them more accurately placed."

Defensively, McKee was happy with his squad's effort, as South Vermillion is another possible sectional opponent.

"I've got a good strong defense," he said. "They know what each others doing so they're overlapping and covering each others' spots."

In junior varsity action, the Tiger Cubs had another strong defensive effort, defeating South Vermillion, 3-0. Erica Soster scored two goals, while Kylie Rowings added another.

Greencastle's next match is Thursday, hosting Monrovia at 5 p.m. The match comes on Senior Night, followed by the Greencastle boys' varsity match against Speedway.
