The North Putnam girls' varsity basketball team lost to Tri-West, Tuesday, 60-48.

After a strong first half, in which the Cougars took a 29-24 lead, the Bruins took over in the third period, outscoring North Putnam, 23-8.

"They did a nice job against our pressure and got some easy buckets," North Putnam Coach Kevin Smith said.

The Cougars started getting things going late in the third period, but the Bruins' offense proved too strong to stop.

"To the latter part of the third quarter, we started to figure out we were doing offensively," Smith said. "Unfortunately, we couldn't stop them."

Laura Blaydes led the Cougars with 16 points, while Sheila Diebold added 11 points to the effort.

"Laura did a nice job early in the game," Smith said. "She pretty much got to do what she wanted to do. Her and Diebold really played well for us."

Junior guard Chelsea Greene added 10 points in the game.

"She just keeps getting better for for us," Smith said.

The Cougars host South Vermillion Thursday at 7 p.m. In the meantime, Smith knows his team is going to have to work on some things on offense.

"We're just going to work on executing offensively in the half court," Smith said.
