FOUNTAIN CENTRAL -- One night after making a game winning play, Riley McGaughey and Jake Mullis struck again.

The Cougars knocked off the Fountain Central Mustangs, 62-56, after McGaughey hit a game-tying three-pointer with a pass from Mullis to send the Cougars into overtime with the Fountain Central Mustangs Saturday. Jake Mullis sealed the deal, going six-for-six from the foul-line earning the Cougars their fourth straight win.

Saturday night started out slow for the Cougars as Fountain Central came out and opened the game with a 17-point quarter, while they posted 14 points of their own, but North Putnam bounced back in the second quarter.

The Cougars got hot and went on a run, lighting up the scoreboard with 15 points and holding the Mustangs to six points. Defensively, the Cougars were all over the court, grabbing every rebound and blocking shots. The Cougars posted five blocks in their game with Fountain Central, led by Jake Mullis and Tyler Trent, with two each. Mullis also had three steals for the Cougar team.

At the half, the Cougars led 29-23.

North Putnam found itself on the other end of the ball in the third quarter, when the Mustangs posted their best quarter of the night, scoring 19-points, and holding the Cougars to eight points.

The Mustangs battled back in the fourth quarter, scoring 16 points to tie the game, sending it into overtime. With Mullis' flawless free-throw shooting, the Cougars moved themselves to 5-4 for the season with their next game taking place on Friday when they host Cloverdale at 7:30 p.m.

The Cougars were led by Jake Mullis who had 21 points with McGaughey following closely behind with 17 points and Lee Fordice had 10 points. Tyler Trent posted eight points for game and Colby Ensor had six.
